Day 8: Being with Unpleasant Experiences
Today we will explore what it is like to be with unpleasant experiences and deconstruct that experience into physical sensations, emotional tone, the thoughts and ultimately the behaviour. We explore the transient nature and impermanence of all things in life.
Also, I apologise for any distractions, my daughter 'aka my coworker' joined me for this teaching as she wouldn't nap and naptime is the only gap I get to record these.
Your practice for today is breath awareness for 15 minutes.
Also please find 10-15 minutes for mindful walking either inside or outside. Simply be aware of your experience, the body, the breath, the physical sensations, emotional tone, thoughts. Bring an attitude of openness and curiosity. If you can take off your shoes great.
I always like to add 'I AM HERE (with one step), THIS IS NOW' with the other step.
When you record your unpleasant experience break down the experience into physical sensations, emotions, thoughts and behaviours.
Please also practice simple awareness whenever you can. Simply being aware of what is happening in the moment. The core quality is without judgement. Simply allowing that moment to be as it is.
