Day 2: What is Compassion?
Today we explore what compassion is, how to cultivate it for ourselves first of all. By integrating a kindness towards our own experience we can then bring kindness and compassion to others. Compassion, in essence, is feeling with the experience of others with a willingness to help or alleviate suffering in some way. We will also:
Distinguish between empathy and compassion.
Share ways of being compassionate in the current crisis.
Practice for today is 'A safe place' meditation. I also recommend doing the body scan daily for the coming 2 weeks. Mastery comes from repetition. The more you practice getting into the body the easier it becomes.
Practice the self-compassion mantra as often as needed, place your hand on your heart:
This is a moment of suffering,
Suffering is part of life,
How can I be kind to myself?
Ask yourself the following question: 'What wise compassionate action can I take today?'
