Day 10: Being with Difficult Emotions
Today we explore what it is like to be with difficult emotions. Typically we find ourselves resisting what is unpleasant. It is natural not to want to have difficult or unpleasant experiences but today we learn to turn toward that which is difficult instead of turning away.
Your meditation practice for today is Being with Difficult Emotions. Think of something that is troubling you to work with, either currently or something from the past. Something that you don't mind staying with for a while but not something traumatic that will overwhelm you. If you can't find something difficult perhaps use a physical sensation or discomfort instead.
Return to the practice of being with difficult emotions as much as you need. You may find it helpful to explore experiences from your past (again not something traumatic that will overwhelm you) and find new ways of relating to those experiences. Remember you don't have to like the original situation it is just bringing an attitude of openness to the experience.
3 Step Breathing Space
This practice is available in a shorter 3-minute practice that you may also like for difficult experiences that you may experience throughout the day. Use it regularly to regain the balance of your mind if faced with challenges.
