About the Day of Mindfulness
Based on Dr Jon Kabat-Zinn Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) programme at the University of Massachusetts Medical Centre and MBCT has been adapted to include cognitive therapy to help manage thoughts and emotions.
The retreat will enable participants to explore different forms of mindfulness practice including; sitting meditation, mindful eating, awareness of physical sensations and gentle mindful movement. It can be an introduction to people or a way of deepening an already established practice. Part of the day will be held in silence.
Core aspects will include developing an awareness of automatic pilot, habitual patterns, awareness of thoughts, emotions and physical sensations. This awareness provides the opportunity to engage with life in a different way and is the foundation upon which new perspectives are built. As the emphasis is on bringing mindfulness into everyday life, home practice and journaling are also an important aspect of the course.
