Hatha Yoga is considered a gentle but strong yoga. It focuses on static poses using isometric holds to build strength, balance and flexibility.
This style of yoga is great for beginners and intermediate yogi's as it is both physically and mentally challenging.
Yoga is about creating unity between the body and the spirit and calming the fluctuations of the mind. Hatha means 'force' in Sanskrit. Practising Hatha yoga is about bringing intentional force or effort to connecting with the body and the spirit through postures, breath and focus of the mind.
Many people think that they need to be flexible to do yoga, actually, the opposite is true we need yoga to maintain our flexibility, strength and balance. It's that's a bit like saying "I need my teeth to be clean before I can brush them!"
What to expect:
The class will be broken down into :
- Theme: Each class will have a particular theme or focus for the class. You will be reminded to connect to the theme of the class throughout the class.
- Breathing: Each class will start with a period of focus on the breath or pranayama. You will be reminded to connect to your breath throughout the class.
- Poses: Each class will have a variety of yoga poses, also called postures or asanas. These are a series of movements that help improve your balance, flexibility, and strength. Poses range in difficulty from laying flat on the floor to physically challenging positions. If at any time during your class, a pose is too difficult, you will be guided to take a modified posture. If at any stage you need to take a break you can relax in the child's pose (which you will be shown).
- Meditation: Each class will end with a short period of meditation. During this period of quiet reflection, you will be asked to lie on your back and surrender to the here and now.
